Top Pool Builders in East Carolina

Dec 14, 2011 | Uncategorized

There are quite a few companies and individuals that will build your pool in Eastern North Carolina.  Now when we say Eastern North Carolina, we really mean the following areas- New Bern, Jacksonville, Greenville, Morehead City, the Southern Outer Banks, Washington, Kinston, and everywhere around in between.

The first part of the criterea is that in North Carolina you must be a Licensed General Contractor to build any project $30,000.00 and over.  If you are not licensed and the total amount of the job goes over $30,000.00 you will be prosecuted if reported to the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors. You can easily check if your contractor is licensed at North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors . With that being said any Licensed General Contractor or even a Licensed Landscape Contractor can build a Residential Swimming Pool at $30,000.00 and up.  This does not mean that this contractor is qualified to build a swimming pool.  In the State of North Carolina they have a specialty license for Swimming Pool Contractors that allows them to build Residential and Commercial Swimming Pools.  To obtain this license you must prove financial stability and pass a written exam, once you obtain this license you must prove your financial stability every year to retain it.

There are only four Contractors in this area that I know of that are Licensed Swimming PoolSwimming Pool Renovation and Outdoor Living on the Neuse Contractors- Big Kahuna Pools and Spas/  Greenville Pool and Supply, Miracle Pools/ and Pool Pros of Greenville. The first three Contractors have experience with Residential and Commercial Swimming Pools. They also install all three types of pools -Vinyl Liner Pools, Fiberglass Pools, and Concrete/Gunite Pools, even though one company may install more of one type than another of these pools, they have experience with all three.

Some important things to look for in your swimming pool contractor is their affiliations. You want to make sure that they are aware of all the new laws and regulations in this ever changing industry.  The largest association of this type is known as APSP, which stands for the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals.  This organization is the world’s largest international trade association for the swimming pool, spa, and hot tub industry. As an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited standards developer, APSP works with regulatory and legislative bodies to ensure that their codes, ordinances, and legislation are written to the safest and most current standards. The association’s mission is to ensure consumer safety and enhance the business success of its members (taken from their website). We also have buying groups such as Carecraft and Aquatech, these offer some products at lower prices to the Pool Contractors as well as a network and education.  From there we go to other Groups and Guilds, most of these organizations offer a paid membership to qualified pool builders. Unfortunately they only offer membership to one qualified pool builder in an area. One of the more important groups out there is Genesis 3 Design Group.  This is an organization that was started by three individuals that are very highly looked upon in this industry for innovative and quality pool building. They have many high end product manufactures that sponser their programs in this industry.  That says alot for what they are teaching and preaching. The Genesis 3 Design Group provides an international forum for continuing education and the establishment of higher standards in watershape design and construction. Continuing education is something that must be embraced by every industry, some contractors will boast that they have many years in the industry. That does not necessarily mean that they are your best option.  If you have been doing the same things the same way for the last 10 years or more than you are doing something wrong, as this is with any industry.

In closing, I would like to say that make sure you do your homework, when searching out the Professional that you are going to contract with to build your Swimming Pool.
