Nothing but the best experience. We ordered our Hot Tub when it came in they delivered on time with no problems. The guys were great and very helpful. The electrician they sent was the best. Went over and beyond to help us. We had many questions and probably were not understanding how to use it at first but when I called and went there to get more information about how to use some of the features they were very helpful. Couldn’t of asked for better service. Highly recommend Kahuna

Big Kahuna did a great job for us. Chris was easy to work with, along with his guys that put the pool in and electricians(subcontactor). It was a great experience and I will refer them to anyone I know that's looking to get a pool. Btw, we got the Latham Gemini (fiberglass) and love it!!

Cindy at Big Kahuna Pools is a wonderful salesperson there was no pressure she was very knowledgeable She answered every question and took her time with us we had a great sales experience and can not wait until it is delivered there were a lot of nice extras that came with our purchase and we are very happy we stopped in If you're looking for a great salesperson and quality spas see Cindy you won't regret it. I will definitely send photos after it is installed.

Chris and big Kahuna pools were great from start to finish. They gave us the pool of our dreams in a realistic budget. Most people do not stop to consider paying a large sum for a nice truck or SUV that depreciates. A pool not only improves the value of your home but makes your home a more family focused and enjoyable place to be for a staycation or just a pleasant family weekend. Big Kahuna did a phenomenal job on our pool, deck, and retaining wall. I cannot say enough about the quality and customer service they provided throughout the entire process. Last week our pool was finished and we couldn't be happier. We watched as the crews went through their process and were pleased to see their professional expertise in their their work. Chris and his team have been absolutely wonderful to work with on our pool install at Emerald Isle. My wife and I were building our 'forever home' on the beach which carries with it a number of challenges -- lot size, various permits, etc. Chris and team had to work very closely with our builder as he was required to place the fiberglass pool in the ground before the first pylon was driven for the house due to the lot width. To Chris' credit he understand more clearly than we did that this project was going to be a lengthy one, requiring many visits by him and his team over the course of 15 months. Chris and team were always responsive to our calls and many questions as this was our first pool experience. Everything from design, quote, build, and continued operation as been as professional as I could have ask. The end result is absolutely amazing -- a beautiful, automated, and low maintenance salt water pool -- couldn't ask for a better end result. Even today, after 8 months in service, I call Chris frequently with questions -- he always responds timely and never makes me feel anything but delighted to have him and his team as our 'pool guys'! Would highly recommend Big Kahuna Pools, Spas, and More if you have a project, big or small. You wont be disappointed. Terrible Terrible Where to start!!! Workmanship is terrible. Laminars installed improperly, Liner installed over dirt and stones and can now be felt on your feet. Pipes installed incorrectly. Trash left on site. No supervision, uses subs to do the work.. BUYERS BEWARE

Big Kahuna Pools, Spas, and More, was incredible. Chris and his team were very professional. His vast knowledge of the pool business is very extensive, and he has an amazing eye for details! Chris listened to our needs and wants and was able to come up with different options to fit in our budget. He was always right there to answer all of my questions, (and there were many)! The workmanship from the crew was impressive. They were very polite and cleaned up at the end of each day. The pool and patio opens up our backyard and provides us an amazing outdoor living space. We have received many comments from all our guests regarding the finished product. This is our dream backyard and we are astonished with the end result. It was more than we could have imagined. When we decided to build our new home, we knew we wanted another pool, but we were adamant about what we wanted and it had to be low or no maintenance. We searched pool contractors online and found Chris Varholick, owner of Big Kahuna Pools, Spas, and More. We called and met with Chris numerous times over 6 months so we could come up with the design and style we were looking for. He was always patient, professional and kind and we thoroughly enjoyed working with him throughout our project. We have a gunite, heated saltwater pool that had to be put on pilings due to the soil. Needless to say, this was a difficult project with many complications and challenges and Chris met them all head on. Our pool has a tanning ledge, grotto with rap around steps and waterfall, hot tub with spill over, 8’ fire feature, in pool table and bar stools with beautiful LED lighting and an in-floor cleaning system. All features can be operated from our i-phones and it is extremely easy to navigate the program. Chris answered every phone call and text immediately, he was always on the job and all of his crew were extremely knowledgeable and professional. He also expeditiously gets back to us whenever we have questions or anything comes up we don’t understand. The pool adds a whole new dimension to our home and we receive very gracious comments from all our guests as to the look, finish and beauty of the pool. This was our dream pool and we are ecstatic with the final result. We highly recommend Chris and his staff.

Chris, Jeanne and staff were the best. They made this dream come true. Chris listened to all of our wants and kept the project in budget and on time. Great company! I was given a quote and illustration within one day. When I decided to get them to do the installation, they were in constant contact with me regarding times and any hold ups. Chris as well as all the other employees that I had contact with were always polite and very professional. I would absolutely recommend this company for anyone looking!

Big Kahuna put in my inground pool just over 2 years ago. I called Big Kahuna Pools about an issue I had with my FiberStars led light transformer. I asked how much the it would cost to replace and if my unit was still under warranty. The gentleman I spoke with told me the unit replacement would cost $498 and would get back to me on the warranty. Well a week later I decided to call back and spoke to another gentleman who said he would have to look up the details and call me back. Guess what? I never received a call back. So at this point I decided to call the manufacturer which is now SrSmith. The lady there stated that the model I have is just over $200 to replace and a new model with more options is only $491 which is still better than what Big Kahuna quoted. So I would not recommend dealing with this business as they do not care about their previous clients. Please research before picking them.

I am changing my review, 1 because Chris did come up with a reasonable solution for our problem, and when we are ready to do that I am 100% sure that Chris will do his part, and secondly it is not his fault that the concrete guys did less than excellent work. We ultimately love our pool and spa, just not some of the work that was done by contractors, and I took that out on Chris. For that I apologize, and I have since referred several people to his business. Chris thank you for putting up with me, and we are so happy in the end with the work that you and your guys did, just not the concrete work or I would have given 5 stars.

If you have had a pool before or looking for your first, Chris from Big Kahuna Pools is the guy to call. He and his wife were very professional, always returned our calls in a timely manner, and were very knowledgeable. I am a double amputee and he helped give me ideas and made sure everything was usable and serviceable from my wheelchair. My family and I enjoy spending our time in and around our pool and would definately recommend him to everyone.

The work crew was very professional and did an excellent job. I have recommended them to several people. The pool has exceeded our expectations. Great Job!!

Chris went the extra mile on our difficult project from design challenges, HOA approval, ground water issues to a beautiful completed pool. We could not have been happier with the level of attention to our project before, during, and after completion. We have already recommended Big Kahuna to several people who were impressed with the job they did and will continue to do so.

Nightmare! I would give a -1 rating if There were an option. On June 25th 10:00 i was greeted by the receptionist.. I had many questions that she could not answer: due to the fact she was new. The owner Janine Varholick came out from back and asked if she could help. I asked her what happened with all the nice pool displays they use to have. I was told "we took them down. I then asked the owner Janine Varholick where a certain manager is that use work there. I faithfully did my business through her because she was fantastic. Janine the owner of Bug Kahuna Pools stated she is no longer here. I was disappointed but i thought it was the same company I did business with years ago. They always change locations here and employees so its difficult to keep track. It was not the same company,. The person i was looking for never worked at This Big Kahuna Pool location. I later found out from my own research after the experience i had with Big Kahuna Pools of New Bern. I signed a contract for pool installation. The owner Janine Varholick of Big Kahuna Pools; New Bern, NC sold me an above ground package deal of pool and installation. I gave Janine a $2,000.00 deposit upon the agreement that the job would be completed by July 9. Janine stated their truck broke down; therefore, July25: owner janine confirmed Eric the service man would call me within three days in order to do an onsite evaluation. Jeanine assured me i was number four on their schedule for installation: being fully aware the reason i signed the contract was due to the fact that the job would be completed before i had to travel. July 9 : completion date Still have not recieved ANY RETURN calls from Eric the service manager. Job not even started not one person has come to my property. When I called; Eric the service manager stated Janine was busy. He not once stated his name. I continued and informed him the pool was to be completed by the 9th and today IS THE 9th and the service man has not even returned any calls. I stated i don't know him, never met him. Ending the conversation as he said "ill call you back" i asked him what is your name. His reply: Eric. I then said oh so you are the service man! Hung up. Recieved my first call back since two weeks prior today july 9 from Eric to schedule an onsite inspection to determine where to put the pool. Hence today was the signed contract job completion date. Eric confirmed he would be at my house 9:00am july 10 next day. Wonderful! I myself cancelled my clients for the morning; being self employed. July 10: 9:00 am No sight of Eric the service manager 9:30am no call no show I placed a call to Eric to confirm if he is coming. Erics' response: i got a late start I'll be there in five minutes. (i live 4 miles from Kahuna Pool. Ok he will be here 9:35am now. 10:15am ONE HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES LATE he arrives. Did not even introduce himself nor offer a handshake. Therefore I took the initiative. He marked where to put the pool. I had a previous pool which had been taken down. It was 3-5 feet from my foundation and also my outside air condensor unit. Eric marked the site 3 inches away from my air unit. After calling my Havoc installer he said NEVER put a pool that close! Chemicals and noise level are an absolute "nono"and they would not be able to get at it to service; if need be. Upon leaving Eric informed me his installers would be there Monday or Tuesday that they have bob cat problems. Maybe they need equipment backup on reserve and name tags so the employees can remember their names in order to inform the customer. July 11: i called Kahuna Pool some girl answered; I wonder if any employees have names at this point. I didn't bother asking her because no one returns calls anyway. I was very clear to her that its urgent the owner Janine Varholick call me today! I was assured she would. I asked the girl three times and said i must hear from Janine today because it was urgent! End of day store closed owner Janine Varholick never returned my call July 14: i showed up in person 9:00 am opening time. Sat an hour till owner decides to run her business and actually show up. I got my deposit back due to breech of contract. They did not even come inspect my property until a day later than contracted finish date. I will not even go into the horrific experience i had with the owner Janine Varholick while getting my deposit back. It would take volumes! Big Kahuna Pool in New Bern and working with Janine Varholick and Service Manager Eric (no last name to be found) has been the worst business experience i have encountered in all my years! Thank God they breeched the contract i cant imagine the additional problems that i would have endured had they actually ATTEMPTED to show up and do any work!

Very knowledgeable and professional. Chris came out to walk us through and oversaw the whole project. Even when we hit some speed bumps we were assured that he would stand by his work We recommend Big Kahuna to anyone who wants a great looking pool!

First instalation in 2012 was fantastic. Chris was there and made sure everything was right. Excellent install. Start up was great too. System was good for 2 years then the Poo Pilot clock stopped working so the pump would not turn off and on. I called and ask for the date that the system went on line and was told that it was March 1012. I told him that the clock stopped and I wanted to know if the company would replace the board. He said that he would send a tech out and check it and call the company to see if it was under warranty. Instead of the time that was set up for the tech to come he sent a different tech at an earlier time and I was not home. I called the next day he was not in and I was leaving for a trip the next week. No one could tell me what was going on about my problem. Today the tech came to install the new board and had no idea how to program it. I had to.

We had an Awesome experence and really love the work and the finished pool. Chris, Brian and workers were very professional and kept us up to speed. Brian sold us the pool with the first presentation. He was very professional, answered our questions and if he did not have the answer he was able to get it for us pretty quickly. We plan on doing an outdoor area in the near future and cant wait to use Big Kahuna again for our outdoor needs.

Love our pool! Big Kahuna Pools & Spas is very easy to work with & extremely knowledgable. They walked through each step with us & the end result is a fantastic kidney shaped saltwater pool that has & will continue to bring us a much appreciated respite from sweltering summer days.

Dealing with Chris Varholick and Big Kahuna Pools was a pleasure. They were helpful from beginning to end, guiding us toward the right pool for us and then building it perfectly. Every member of the Big Kahuna team was a complete professional who appeared to take enormous pride in doing excellent work. We love our large lap pool and all its features, particularly the saline system. The pool stays beautiful all of the time and the water feels lovely on the skin. We have had many people, among them folks from other pool companies, who say they are very impressed by our beautifully built pool. Thanks for allowing me to comment.

I discovered Big Kahuna in a web search and found their site to be very helpful. My only hesitation in calling them was that they were located two hours from my home. When I called and asked if this would be a problem, they assured me that it would not... and that has proved to be true. Chris made two trips just for design consultation. He had the ability and web program to show me computer renderings and I found him to be creative in the design process. He made suggestions that I would not have thought of. In additon to his design skills, it is impressive that he is hands on in being part of and overseeing the installation. He is not just a salesman! While our job is not yet complete, with pool season approaching, I hope this will be helpful to those considering a pool.

Big Kahuna transferred our non plus sloping backyard into a fabulous outdoor entertainment area. Our backyard now consists of a pool (18X36) surrounded by a patio covered with Travertine stone, a retaining wall ranging from ground level to almost 6 feet high and a fireplace. We also have a 2 tier deck and pergola built with IPE lumber that includes a built in Hot-tub and outdoor kitchen. Our outdoor entertainment area is approximately 2000square feet and can be used almost year round. The pool is never closed because it looks great whether we are at the fireplace, in the Hot-tub or just using the outdoor kitchen. Chris Varholic, owner of Big Kahuna, is not only very knowledgeable and creative, but he was willing to listen to my wife and me and determine what we were trying to accomplish. Chris and all of his people were conscientious, considerate, polite and never left a mess during the construction period. During construction, my wife and I asked for several changes and some changes we agreed to were suggested by Chris and or the construction people. Whenever we asked for or agreed to a change, Chris provided a quotation. We were never surprised. The entire project was completed on time and for the amount we had agreed upon. If anyone is thinking about putting in a Hot-tub, a pool or totally redoing their backyard, Big Kahuna is the organization to contact. We were and are totally satisfied.
